Julie Hesmondhalgh, actress (Coronation Street), supports We Stand With Shaker, and was a signatory to last week’s open letter to President Obama calling for Shaker’s release and return to his family in the UK. She says, “I can’t imagine the agony of being held in the hell hole that is Guantánamo, without trial, for years, and to be told over and over that you will return home soon, while nothing happens. I can only imagine the fear, hopelessness and devastation that must be part of Shaker Aamer’s daily existence. I’m proud to be part of the growing international campaign to get him home. I am proud to stand with Shaker.”
