Russell Brand, comedian, activist, author and actor, supports We Stand With Shaker, and is a signatory to the open letter Andy Worthington wrote to President Obama, calling for Shaker Aamer’s release from Guantánamo, published in the Guardian on US Independence Day. Russell urges President Obama to release Shaker, and says, “Barack Obama, who inspired so much hope and has presided over so much pain and disappointment, in this single act of compassion can alter history. Shaker must be returned to his family, innocence must be respected, then perhaps hope can prevail.”
