Apparently it takes eight years and counting for them to be able to put an interpretation on the US’s own directive, having had him ‘cleared for release’ since 2007. This grotesque treatment only compounds the original injustice of rendition and torture followed by thirteen years of incarceration without charge or trial. The Green Party stands full square behind the campaign for Shaker’s release. He must be allowed to return to his family here in the UK. How cruelly he has been deprived of contact with his children, one of whom he has never before seen.”
