George Barda, of the Occupy movement, supports We Stand With Shaker, and says, “In the year of the 800th anniversary of Magna Carta, we should be celebrating the importance of habeas corpus in protecting everyone from arbitrary detention. However, Shaker Aamer is still in Guantánamo, having been held without charge or trial for 13 years, and we have to conclude that what has happened to him could happen to anyone.”

George was photographed by Andy Worthington outside the corporate Global Law Summit a few weeks ago, after the Not the Global Law Summit had taken place opposite Parliament, primarily to defend legal aid from government cuts, but also to highlight the hypocrisy of the Global Law Summit, which purported to celebrate the 800th anniversary of Magna Carta while doing no such thing.
