Alistair Burt MP (Conservative, North East Bedfordshire), who was Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) from 2010 to 2013, supports We Stand With Shaker, and says, “I support the release of Shaker Aamer as soon as possible. To be detained without charge or trial is fundamentally against all that the UK stands for, and such a policy is of no assistance in defending the cause of freedom from those who would attack it. I would continue to ask, as I did whilst a Minister at the FCO, that the US releases him back to the UK, and that the UK Government continue to raise his case at the highest level.”
