Lawyer Matt Foot supports We Stand With Shaker, and is one of the organisers of the Justice Alliance’s Not the Global Law Summit outside Parliament on 23 February 2015. Focused primarily on defending legal aid from savage cuts by the Tory-led government, the summit also highlighted the government’s hypocrisy in the year of the 800th anniversary of Magna Carta, which introduced habeas corpus to the world - and We Stand With Shaker’s co-director Andy Worthington spoke about Shaker at the protest, highlighting his imprisonment without charge or trial for 13 years. The protest was called specifically to challenge the Global Law Summit nearby, a corporate sham paying lip service to Magna Carta, which is where Andy photographed Matt, who said, “There couldn’t be a more terrible example of how Magna Carta has not been applied than the case of Shaker Aamer. I’m certain that Shaker’s case will fail to be raised at the hypocritical Global Law Summit.”
