Sir Bob Russell MP (Liberal Democrat, Colchester) supports We Stand With Shaker, and says, “It is an outrage that a British citizen has been incarcerated, for so long, by the USA which is supposed to be Britain’s closest ally – and which claims to be promoting liberal democracy around the world when in reality it is in serious breach of the human rights of people of whom Shaker Aamer is just one. The US President has failed in the basic test of leadership to allow this state of affairs to continue. He should be ashamed. And the British Government should be doing more to embarrass and challenge the Americans to release one of its citizens.”
